The Feeding Team at Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC)
is a multi-disciplinary clinic that addresses the needs of children, age birth through 18 years,
who are experiencing feeding problems. These include extreme food
selectivity or refusal, difficult mealtime behaviors, and/or
specific skill deficits such as swallowing or self-feeding.
Often, children who have been dependent on tube feeding need
help with the challenge of transitioning to oral feedings.
Our goal is to establish feeding patterns that optimize
nutrition while supporting the child's development in
social, emotional, communication, and cognitive
(intellectual) areas.
Examples of medical diagnoses that may be associated with
feeding problems include:
- autism/pervasive developmental disorders
- bronchopulmonary dysplasia
- cerebral palsy
- cleft lip/palate
- congenital cardiac conditions
- congenital syndromes
- dysphagia
- failure to thrive
- gastro-esophageal reflux
- oral motor dysfunction
- tracheo-esophageal fistula
