LOCAL BAND, “OUT OF THE BASEMENT” RAISING MONEY FOR CONNECTICUT CHILDREN’S MEDICAL CENTER AT MCGILLICUDDY’S FRIDAY, JANUARY 14 @ 9 P.M.

UNIONVILLE, -- A band of four local businessmen who call themselves “Out of the Basement” will perform at McGillicuddy’s Friday January 14 at 9 p.m. to raise money for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Last year the band raised more than $3,000 by donating proceeds of their “gigs” to CCMC and to a scholarship fund in memory of former band member Rich Hotes, who was an anesthesiologist at New Britain General Hospital according to band spokesperson Paul Shlien of Farmington. Shlien plays piano and guitar and is the lead vocalist. Other band members include drummer and backup vocalist Dana Barron, of Glastonbury; rhythm guitarist Pete Holmes of Canton and Rick Suydam of Glastonbury, bass guitar.

The group meets weekly to practice and play in the basement of Shlien or Barron’s home. They play their favorite classic rock songs by The Beatles, Goo Goo Dolls, Bruce Springsteen, The Gin Blossoms, Billy Joel, Jackson Browne, Counting Crows, Third Eye Blind, Cold Play, Maroon 5, and Matchbox 20.

All of the band members are local businessmen who have known each other for 20 years. They are all married, have children, and have a strong local following of business associates, family and friends who come to hear them perform.
McGillicuddy’s is located on New Britain Ave, Route 177 in Unionville.
